Types of Hotel Décor to Inspire

Certain kinds of hotels and holidays appeal to certain kinds of people. City bums love the contemporary feel of a hotel, nature-lovers love the overwater villas. We talk about different kinds of hotel decors that exist in the world

Luxury hotels come in a variety of sizes, shapes and designs. Some our smaller, boutique properties, others are large, mammoth sized creations. Along with the size, the décor of the hotel also helps define the vibe the property wants to give, and the kind of vacationers or tourists it wants to invite to its folds.

Locational attributes also define the style of the hotel. Island hotels are more tropical, airport hotels more basic.

We talk about some common kinds of hotel designs and hotels that exemplify them.

The Island Look
Island hotels look like they come from a dream. One of the most apt examples is St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort. It’s villas with private pools and surrounded by lush flora and fauna make it an instantly refreshing hotel design. Water inspired features and spas, tropical colours – all add up to make St. Regis Maldives a stunning resort to spend your vacation in!

The City Style
Cities with their skyscrapers look like a magical place to those who come from suburbs or islands to holiday in the ‘big, bad world’. City hotels exemplify that feeling with their contemporary design, encompassing modern art features, innovative lighting and neutral shades. Hotel Conrad Pune has incorporated all these features in its hotels, along with some smart room technology. High ceilings and sleek lines make Conrad Pune a hotel par excellence in the upcoming city of Pune.

Design specialist Anouska Hempel gave a tip to luxury blog LuxuryFacts on how to add that magnificent feeling in hotels, “Proportions up-high. If you are building a space and the volumes allow, consider the possibility of reaching high into the heights with domes and cupolas covered in Baccarat Crystals. The light and reflections of water or candlelight below will create a majestic interior with memorable consequences.”

The Retro Vibe
Nostalgia works well with many vacationers. And many hotels take advantage of that with curvaceous furniture, bright pop shades, vintage signs and other features that communicate a way of life that doesn’t exist anymore. TWA Hotel in New York has aced this kind of style. An airport terminal which was once futuristic, it was turned into TWA Hotel which is now retro with white surroundings and red furniture. As far as airport hotels go, TWA Hotel is the most intriguing, exciting one we have seen!

Historic Heritage
It’s always challenging to preserve the historic heritage of a property, while still giving it that slight modernity. Truth be told, there is a certain charm about historic hotels which evokes images of flowy gowns, champagne glasses and violins. Nothing spells luxury more appropriately than a historical hotel. Examples abound: The Ritz in London and Paris, Ciragan Palace Kempinski in Istanbul and The Drisco in Tel Aviv.

For both island looks and retro vibes, another advice by Anouska Hempel to luxury blog LuxuryFacts, may work well: “During travels…be spontaneous and bring something back that catches your eye at first glance...An interesting mix of furniture, desks, books, chairs, baskets, lamps, cushion shapes and glassware will in turn catch someone else’s eye, and create more stories about faraway travels – real or not!”

What is Teppanyaki? Understanding Japanese Cuisine.

Although there is much involved in the creation of delectable Japanese cuisine, Teppanyaki forms a large part of it, which many misunderstand to be same as hibachi or just grilled food. By: Soumya Jain Japan’s cuisine is as technically precise as it is creating a watch or jewelry. The fish has to be placed just the way and seaweed rolled with just enough pressure to be able to present a perfectly made sushi. Apart from the more popular sushi and sashimi, Teppanyaki also forms a part of Japanese cuisine. To put it in easy words, Teppanyaki uses an iron griddle to cook food. In Japan, ‘teppanyaki’ refers to dishes cooked using an iron plate, including steak, shrimp, vegetables, okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake), yakisoba (Japanese fried noodles), and monjayaki (also a kind of savory Japanese pancake). Modern teppanyaki grills are typically propane-heated flat surface grills and are widely used to cook food in front of guests at restaurants. Teppanyaki grills are commonly ...

The Rise of Indian Luxury Brands

India is no stranger to luxury. But its manifestations have only begun to rise recently. By: Soumya Jain I still remember 2009 and the huge number of trips I made to the newly opened DLF Emporio mall that year, because all international brands were opening their stores one by one at this New Delhi mecca of pure luxury. From Cartier to Dior, international brands had finally found a location apt for their sparkling stores in India. And suddenly, all these brands and the Indian luxury industry were in news. Not that Indian luxury brands didn’t exist before this. They did. After all, who else donned the celebrity and rich brides of India before this era. It’s just that Indian luxury brands were maybe only fixed on the pages of luxury magazines in India . After this time, they became mainstream. Today everybody knows J. J. Valaya, Suneet Varma, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, Good Earth, Hidesign, Zoya, Forest Essentials, Mirari and the many Indian...
